Ka-Zar #1
Marvel's 1974 launch of Ka-Zar's solo series opens with a cover by John Buscema that puts the Lord of the Hidden Jungle front and center — long-haired, knife raised, muscles coiled — as he stands astride a downed striped creature while a snarling saber-tooth tiger lunges at his side. A smoking volcano and lush jungle greenery frame the scene, with a small inset portrait of a blonde woman hinting at a broader cast waiting within. "Return to the Savage Land!" promises exactly the kind of primal, lost-world adventure that makes Ka-Zar one of Marvel's most distinctive corners of its sprawling universe.
