Secret Story Romances #2
In "Whistle Bait!", Joyce learns the hard way that marriage isn’t just about love—it’s about effort. After months of slipping into lazy habits, she stumbles upon her husband Fred’s business school speech, where he praises a woman’s appearance as her greatest asset. The moment sets her on a new path, determined to prove his point—right in front of his audience. Art by Paul Reinman, this 1954 tale captures the quiet drama of domestic life with a touch of early romance-era realism.

When Joyce weds Fred, her married friend Marion warns her “you have to fight as hard to keep a husband as you do getting one.” After 6 months, the novelty of marriage wears off and Joyce sleeps until noon, and lets her appearance slip. She discovers a business school graduation speech Fred has written: “A woman’s greatest asset in the business and social world…and at home…is her personal appearance! Without it you won’t be successful in business…in society… or in marriage!” Joyce takes the hint, gets dressed up, and Fred uses her as a “good example” for his speech.
