“The Power of the Primitive!”

In "The Power of the Primitive!", the Black Pirate and his son Justin find themselves swept into space when a mysterious ship lifts their galleon from a calm sea and transports them to the planet of the Krolls. There, they inspire a once-subjugated people to stand up against the giant, ruthless Hill People—not through force alone, but by showing them the strength of unity, fairness, and democracy. Paul Reinman’s dynamic artwork brings the adventure to life, while Sheldon Mayer’s cover captures the wild, otherworldly tone of the tale. A 10-cent comic from 1947, this issue blends swashbuckling spirit with early science fiction in a story that’s as bold as it is imaginative.

While sailing on a becalmed sea a spaceship appears over the Black Pirate's galleon, and by means of strong chains carries it through space to the planet of the Krolls. Upon arrival he and his son Justin motivate the Krolls to fight off the marauding race of giant Hill People who have been stealing their food, by teaching them about democracy and fair play. The galleon is then returned to Earth.
