Michael Heisler

Michael Heisler is an American comic book professional whose career spans lettering, writing, and editing across nearly four decades in the industry. He broke into comics in the late 1980s primarily as a letterer for Marvel Comics, building credits on titles such as Iron Man, X-Factor, and Excalibur before eventually broadening his role to include writing and editing work.

As a writer, Heisler is perhaps best recognized for his contributions to the Wildstorm universe, penning the series DV8 and Union as well as the Gen13 mini-series Gen13: Interactive and the one-shot Gen13: The Unreal World. Beyond Wildstorm, he has also worked with Dark Horse Comics, and his lettering credits extend to high-profile projects including Tomb Raider, Halo: Escalation, and Global Frequency, reflecting the range of publishers and genres he has navigated throughout his career.

In December 2009, Heisler was announced as editor of a revived Famous Monsters of Filmland, the influential monster movie magazine, signaling his interests beyond the comics page into broader genre media. With active credits running from 1987 through 2025 and contributions to over 500 issues, his body of work represents a steady, versatile presence in American comics — one built more on craft and reliability than on marquee celebrity.
