Dark Horse's Star Wars #1 from 2013 brings the saga back to its roots with a cover by Alex Ross that assembles the whole rebel crew: Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia loom large in the foreground, while Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2 fill the middle ground — all overshadowed by a menacing Darth Vader raising his red lightsaber against a backdrop of TIE fighters and laser fire. The promise of "Classic Characters, All-New Star Wars" says it plainly: writer Brian Wood and artist Carlos D'Anda are working with the full original ensemble in a story set in the shadow of the Battle of Yavin. It's a genuinely exciting starting point for fans who want their rebellion fought by exactly the heroes they grew up with.
