About this Collection

This volume collects the second installment of Jean-Michel Charlier and Jean Giraud's acclaimed Western series, originally serialized in France. Following the adventures of Lieutenant Mike Blueberry, it continues the gritty, realistic storytelling that defined the Epic Graphic Novel line from Marvel.

"Book Three: Ballad For a Coffin" delivers a taut, cinematic chapter in the Blueberry saga, with Jean-Michel Charlier, Jean-Marc Lofficier, and Randy Lofficier crafting a pulse-pounding escape across treacherous terrain. Jean Giraud’s masterful art—pencils and inks alike—brings every ricocheting bullet, crumbling bridge, and desperate maneuver to life, while Évelyne Tran-Lê’s colors deepen the dusty, sun-scorched atmosphere. The cover by Giraud captures the moment’s tension perfectly, sealing the mood of a story where every choice carries weight.

Continuing... Blueberry's allies find an iron-bound coffin in a church. Stealing a wagon, breaking out with booby-trapped mules and a smokescreen, they race for the border. Switching to a stage and cutting a bridge, boarding a ferry across the Rio Grande, they cut the cable and drift through rapids. Gunning down more villains, they open the box to find - lead bars. The Federale Vigo explains Juarez "borrowed" the Confederate gold to finance his revolution. The gang drifts away. Blueberry stands court-martial for stealing the gold and is sentenced to 30 years in a Federal penitentiary...
