“Arkon's New York Adventure”

Part of Marvel's 1990 "Acts of Vengeance" crossover, this issue drops the Sorcerer Supreme into a fight he appears to have lost — at least according to the cover. Butch Guice's art makes the stakes unmistakably clear: the horned, chain-wielding barbarian Arkon stands triumphant, clutching the white-haired Clea in his grasp while a battered Doctor Strange lies crumpled at his feet, the cover copy declaring "The Barbaric Arkon — Victorious!!" Roy and Dann Thomas script the action, with Arkon and Clea dominating the foreground in a way that promises real tension for Strange's closest ally.
