“The Litter”

Spider-Man crashes Excalibur's title — literally — in this August 1992 issue, quipping directly at the reader ("Five monthly titles of my own aren't enough, so now I'm taking over THIS one!") while dominating the foreground in his instantly recognizable red-and-blue suit. Behind him, a blonde hero in a red-and-blue costume battles a pack of snarling, clawed creatures in a wonderfully chaotic scene brought to life by the pencils of James Fry and inks of Chris Ivy. It's a fun, self-aware cover that promises an unexpectedly lively team-up between Marvel's wall-crawling wisecracker and the British superteam.
