Lawrence D. Lieber, born October 26, 1931, occupies a quietly significant place in Marvel Comics history as the co-creator of three of the publisher's most enduring superheroes: Iron Man, Thor, and Ant-Man. The younger brother of Stan Lee, Lieber came up through Marvel's creative ranks during the early 1960s boom that reshaped American superhero comics, contributing foundational work to characters who would anchor the Marvel universe for decades to come.

Beyond those headline co-creations, Lieber built a substantial body of work as both writer and artist on the Marvel Western title Rawhide Kid, a series that appears among his most frequently credited across more than 1,100 catalogued issues spanning his active years from 1959 into the 2020s. His versatility extended into newspaper syndication, where he illustrated the daily Amazing Spider-Man strip from 1986 to 2018 — a marathon run of over three decades that demonstrated his remarkable consistency and craft.

In the mid-1970s, Lieber stepped into an editorial role, serving as editor of Atlas/Seaboard Comics from 1974 to 1975. His career represents a sustained, professional commitment to the medium across multiple formats and genres, from superhero origin stories to Westerns to newspaper strips, leaving a legacy that extends well beyond his famous family connection.
