“Locked In!”

"Locked In!" from Vault of Evil #12 (1974) delivers a quietly escalating tale of domestic tension with a surreal edge, as a husband’s routine morning ritual spirals into something far more dangerous. Written and illustrated by Fred Kida, the story unfolds with a deadpan dread, capturing the absurdity of a wife’s demands turning deadly. The cover by Larry Lieber and Vince Colletta captures the moment’s mounting unease, a 25-cent comic in 1974 that lingers long after the final page.

A wife finds an electric razor annoying so she demands her husband use a straight razor. She demands he kiss her before he leaves for work, but each time he attempts to do so, she complains of beard stubble and sends him back into the bathroom to shave again. Ultimately, he cuts off his face with the straight razor.
