Etranges Aventures #40
In "L'étrange Warlock," a tyrant’s desperate bid to evade assassination backfires when his scientist creates a perfect duplicate—only to find the copy has ambitions of its own. As the original dictator returns to destroy the machine, he discovers a growing legion of duplicates, each vying for control, while chaos unfolds around them. A 4 FRF comic from 1975, this story features Stan Lee and Larry Lieber on writing, Jack Kirby on art, Dick Ayers on inks, and Rafael Cortiella on the cover.
In "La machine à reproduire," a tyrant desperate to survive assassination attempts compels a scientist to use his duplicator machine to create a stand-in—only to find the copy too intelligent, too ambitious to obey. As the dictator returns to destroy the machine, he discovers it has been running unchecked, spawning endless duplicates who now clash over power. With revolution rising and the old regime crumbling, the new government faces the strange task of deporting every version of the man they once feared.
In "Le retour de Maaboo," a lone mercenary stumbles upon a remote tribe guarding a hoard of gold, believing it to be a waiting tribute for the mythical alien Maaboo. Posing as the long-lost being, he plans to take the treasure—only to be snatched by the real Maaboo, who has returned at last.
