Born on May 30, 1952, Mike W. Barr is an American writer whose career spans comic books, mystery fiction, and science fiction novels. He broke into the industry in the late 1970s and built a reputation primarily through his work with DC Comics, where Batman proved his most enduring subject. Among his most substantial contributions were the co-creation and writing of Batman & the Outsiders and its follow-up The Outsiders, the ambitious storyline Batman: Year Two, and the celebrated graphic novel Batman: Son of the Demon.
The Brave and the Bold #155 (1979)
Beyond the Dark Knight, Barr conceived and wrote Camelot 3000, a Arthurian science-fantasy series that demonstrated his range well outside superhero convention. His creator-owned mystery title The Maze Agency earned an Eisner nomination for Best New Series. He later created Mantra for Malibu Comics' Ultraverse imprint, adding to a remarkable list of co-created characters that includes Katana, Halo, Geo-Force, Looker, Sebastian Faust, Reaper, Technokrat, and the villainous Masters of Disaster ensemble.

His breadth extended into licensed material as well — Barr contributed comic and other media writing to all four of the original Star Trek television incarnations, from the classic series through Voyager. Across a career spanning more than four decades and over 500 credited issues, his work remains a substantive part of DC's Bronze and Modern Age foundation.
