“The Enterprise Murder Case!”

Marvel's 1980 Star Trek series delivers a genuinely intriguing mystery in issue #6, "The Enterprise Murder Case!" The cover by Dave Cockrum and Klaus Janson sets the scene dramatically: the U.S.S. Enterprise glides through deep space while below, a robed alien figure — Ambassador Phral — appears twice, the cover text posing the impossible question of how he could be alive when beamed up from the planet yet dead upon reaching the ship. It's a wonderfully strange puzzle rendered with the bold, detail-rich linework Cockrum and Janson brought to Marvel's cosmic adventures of this era.
