This 1985 DC annual presents one of the more striking Batman covers of its era, with cover pencils by Ed Hannigan and John Totleben and inks by Totleben bringing a haunting montage to life. The composition layers multiple faces of Batman — cowled and intense — alongside the unmasked visage of Bruce Wayne at different ages, all framed against a dark, atmospheric backdrop with a bat-symbol glowing at its center. It's a moody, beautifully rendered piece that perfectly sets the tone for Mike W. Barr's story, brought to the interior page by the pencil-and-ink work of Jerry Ordway with colors by Adrienne Roy.
