The Outsiders #13
Jim Aparo's bird's-eye view cover for The Outsiders #13 captures the team scattered across and around a tiny tropical island — one figure perched atop a palm tree glowing with energy, several teammates on the sandy shore, and others still wading in the surrounding turquoise water, all watched over by soaring seagulls. The story title "Marooned..." says everything about the situation these heroes find themselves in, and writer Mike W. Barr and artist Steve Ditko are on hand to see it through. It's a wonderfully disorienting perspective that makes the Outsiders look genuinely stranded and small against the open ocean — a real change of pace for DC's most independent team in 1986.
