Jorden anno år 3000 har blivit invaderad av varelser från en annan planet. Den unge Tom Prentice befinner sig på flykt när han plötsligt snubblar över en grav och återuppväcker den legendariske kung Arthur, som lovat att återkomma då England som mest behöver honom. Kungen befriar sin trollkarl Merlin, som varit fången under Stonehenge, och tillsammans beger de sig ut på jakt efter svärdet Excalibur.
