Gabriel och Jennifer campar med paret Rydell och deras tonårsdotter Carly, som just sluppit från en undergångssekt. Deckarparet upptäcker att Carly åter sökt sig till sin gamle kille Malachi, son till sektens ledare Ruth Stanner. Tillsammans med den lokale sheriffen hittar de Ruth död i bunkern under en staty av en ängel med blodigt svärd. Gabriel upptäcker att detta bara var en efterkonstruktion. Ruth fick halsen avskuren av vässade fingernaglar! Den skyldiga är sektmedlemmen Daniella, som velat hämnas sin bror som hon tror dödats av sekten efter att ha testamenterat sina pengar dit.
