The series was originally announced under the title Spider-Man Giant Size before launching as Spider-Man Unlimited, a quarterly format designed to carry double-length stories on glossy stock paper — a production premium that was unusual enough for the early 1990s Marvel line that it became a selling point. The lead story, 'Carnage Rising!', was written by Tom DeFalco (then also serving as Marvel's editor-in-chief) and penciled by Ron Lim, with inks by Jim Sanders III and editing by Danny Fingeroth; two backup stories rounded out the oversized package, written by Mike W. Barr and Terry Kavanagh respectively, with art by Jerry Bingham and Mark Bagley. The issue went on sale March 30, 1993, carrying a May 1993 cover date, and a Dynamic Forces variant was produced in a signed, numbered edition of 10,000 copies signed by Lim.
