Ken Bald was an American illustrator and comic book artist whose career spanned more than seven decades, from the Golden Age into the 21st century. He is best remembered for his work on the newspaper comic strips *Dr. Kildare* and *Dark Shadows*—the latter credited under the name "K. Bruce" due to contractual obligations. Born Kenneth Bruce Bald on August 1, 1920, in New York City, he began his comics career in the early 1940s, contributing to titles such as *Captain America Comics*, *Sub-Mariner Comics*, *Millie the Model*, and *Romantic Adventures*. His clean, expressive linework and knack for storytelling made him a reliable presence across genres, from superheroes to romance and adventure. Over his long career, Bald worked on more than 120 issues, including *Operation: Peril* and *Gwandanaland Comics*, often serving as artist, inker, or writer. He collaborated with editors and writers at Timely Comics (later Marvel) and other publishers, though his most distinctive solo achievement was adapting the gothic soap opera *Dark Shadows* into a daily strip that ran for years. Bald passed away on March 17, 2019, at age 98, leaving behind a body of work that quietly shaped the look of mid-century comics. While he did not receive major industry awards during his lifetime, his contributions are recognized by historians and collectors as a steady, professional force in American comic art.
