Forbidden Worlds Archives #2
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis second volume of Dark Horse's archival series reprints a selection of stories from the 1950s horror-science fiction comic Forbidden Worlds, originally published by American Comics Group. It collects issues from the mid-1950s, featuring eerie tales of monsters, aliens, and supernatural twists typical of the pre-Code era, with art and stories by creators such as Richard Hughes and Ogden Whitney. The volume preserves the original covers and classic four-color pulp atmosphere of the series.
In "The Day the World Died," nuclear scientist Dr. Willard meets his end in terror when a monstrous beyonder from the abyss appears before him—unwittingly triggering a cyclotron that erases all life on Earth into the void. Now, with only Ned and Jean left untouched, the survivors must race against time to undo the catastrophe before the beyonders fully claim the planet.
In "Land of the Living Dead," Philip Wentworth slips into the spirit world during a fever, where he rescues Maureen and other spirits from ghostly pirates. Drawn to her, Maureen follows him back to the living world, where she protects him from his treacherous brother and fiancée. When Philip chooses to end his life to join her in the spirit realm, their bond crosses the boundary between worlds — but the full depth of what that means remains unspoken.
