Gilda works hard to please Brad, dressing well and reading up on subjects he’s interested in, and he finally proposes marriage. However, Gilda then lets herself slip into bad grooming habits and embarrasses Brad; they break up. Her married sister Irene says women must be “charming and attractive” even after marriage: “every smart woman knows that!” Gilda vows to change her ways and Brad returns.
