Michael Avon Oeming is an American comic book creator whose versatility as both artist and writer has made him one of the more distinctive voices in the industry since the early 1990s. Born in 1973, he broke into comics professionally around 1991 and has remained active across an impressive range of titles for over three decades.
Daredevil #320 (1993)
Oeming is perhaps best known for *Powers*, the crime-noir series that places superhero mythology against a gritty detective procedural backdrop. The title became his most enduring calling card and spawned a follow-up in *Powers: Bureau*, extending that world considerably. His chunky, expressionistic linework — influenced by animation and classical cartooning — gave both series an immediately recognizable visual identity.
Quasar #51 (1993)
Beyond *Powers*, Oeming contributed substantially to *Red Sonja* and the *Highlander* comic adaptation, demonstrating a comfort with sword-and-sorcery and action-driven storytelling. More recently, his work on *Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye* and its sequel *Cave Carson Has an Interstellar Eye* showcased a willingness to embrace offbeat, imaginative material within DC's more experimental publishing initiatives.
Wolverine: Bloody Choices #[nn] (1993)
Across nearly 400 credited issues — functioning at various points as artist, writer, inker, and colorist — Oeming has demonstrated unusual range and stamina. His body of work reflects a creator genuinely invested in genre storytelling done with craft and personality.
