☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis collection from the 2017 Thor: Ragnaroks series follows Thor Odinson as he confronts a series of apocalyptic threats tied to the prophesied end of Asgard. Alongside allies like Sif, Balder, and the Warriors Three (Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg), Thor battles dark forces that challenge his role as protector of the Nine Realms. The story explores themes of fate and sacrifice, leading into the cataclysmic events of the Ragnarok cycle.
In "Blood Oath Part 1," Thor embarks on a perilous quest across distant lands, guided by ancient trials and the weight of a blood oath. With the help of the Warriors, he journeys to Egypt’s Hill of Toth, where towering serpent statues stand as guardians of the final test—only to face new threats from Gnives and his enforcer Ulik. Written by Michael Avon Oeming and illustrated by Scott Kolins, with vivid colors by Wil Quintana and sharp lettering by Dave Lanphear, the issue builds tension with a clash of wills and a surprising resolution that brings even enemies to pause. The cover, by Steve Epting, captures the moment’s intensity with striking precision.
In "Blood Oath Part 1," Thor—juggling his duties as both god of thunder and mortal doctor—wakes from a troubling dream that pulls him to Asgard. There, he finds the Warriors Three on trial before Odin at the Althing, accused by the vengeful giant Gnives after a fishing trip leads to the death of Gnives' son, disguised as a sea beast. With five impossible tasks set as punishment, Thor and the Warriors step forward to face the challenge, bound by honor and blood.
Thor and the Warriors Three embark on their first quest by scaling the world tree to steal three apples guarded by the eagle Lerad. With the Norns watching from afar and the wild god Dionysus’ pig—whose skin turns water to wine—now under the protection of the mighty Hercules, the challenge is far from simple.
In "Blood Oath Part 3," Thor finds himself locked in a drunken brawl with Hercules while the Warriors Three scramble to reclaim Dionysus’s wayward pig, all under the amused eyes of the Greek pantheon—Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, and Poseidon—who place bets on the outcome. With chaos brewing and the gods’ stakes rising, the line between myth and mayhem blurs.
In "Blood Oath Part 4," Thor and the Warriors Three—Hogun, Fandral, and Volstagg—face their most perilous trial yet as they journey to Ireland to claim the fabled Spear of Chulain, a weapon that demands a cauldron of boiling blood to contain its fury. With Dionysus’s wine-making pig aiding their escape from Zeus’ unruly son and the gods of Olympus watching from afar, Thor must confront Chulain himself, whose rage proves as fierce as the spear he wields—leaving Volstagg’s fate hanging in the balance.
In "Blood Oath Part 5," Thor and the Warriors Three—Hogun, Fandral, and Volstagg—face their fourth trial in a mythic journey that takes them to a haunted Japanese temple. After a brutal clash with the Irish god Chulain and a shocking loss, they are restored by the world tree’s healing apple and press forward, only to find the sacred Grasscutter sword guarded by an army of the dead.
In "Blood Oath Part 6," Thor and the Warriors Three—Hogun, Fandral, and Volstagg—push through ancient trials across the world, from the sacred guardians of the Grasscutter sword to the serpent-laden slopes of Toth’s hill in Egypt. As their journey nears its climax, tensions flare when Gnives, frustrated by their progress, sends Ulik to stop them—only for his wife to intervene and force a fragile truce. With the final task completed and the weight of their oath lifted, Thor returns to New York, stepping once more into his life as Donald Blake.
