“Cosmic Part Two”

Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers has always had a knack for unsettling imagery, and this 2005 issue of "Cosmic Part Two" delivers a cover that stops you cold — a close-up photograph of an ordinary electrical outlet, rendered almost face-like, with a tiny costumed figure visible glowing inside one of the slots. It's the kind of quietly eerie visual that captures everything Powers does best: the mundane and the superhuman colliding in deeply strange ways. Oeming's cover design makes something as familiar as a wall socket feel genuinely ominous.
