Powers #1
The cover of this 2004 Icon/Marvel series restart sets the tone perfectly: two detectives — a broad-shouldered man gripping a gun at his side and a sharp-eyed blonde woman raising her weapon in a ready stance — survey a city rooftop bathed in an ominous amber dusk, with what appears to be a costumed figure fallen at the edge of the frame and shadowy fliers streaking through the skyline behind them. Michael Avon Oeming's bold, clean linework gives the whole scene a noir-tinged energy that feels utterly distinct from anything else on the 2004 stands. Brian Michael Bendis and Oeming's "Legends Part One" promises a street-level detective story set against a world where superpowers are just another part of the crime scene.
