Powers #14
Designed to look exactly like a supermarket tabloid, this 2001 Image Comics issue uses Michael Avon Oeming's cover art to gleefully skewer celebrity culture — splashing screaming headlines about "Superhunk Olympia and His Secret Love Affairs" alongside smaller panels teasing Retro Girl's wild night and Zora's personal struggles. A caped figure thrusts a hand toward the camera while a red-haired woman recoils beside him, the whole composition perfectly mimicking the trashy-magazine aesthetic that makes Brian Michael Bendis and Oeming's "Groupies" arc such a sharp piece of superhero satire. At $2.95, this is Powers doing what it does best: finding the seedy, very human mess lurking just beneath the spandex.
