Thor: Blood Oath #4
In Thor: Blood Oath #4, Thor and the Warriors Three face their third trial in a deadly quest across realms, now journeying to Ireland to claim the fabled Spear of Chulain—kept submerged in boiling blood to tame its violent nature. When Hogun succeeds in retrieving it, the legendary warrior Chulain arrives in fury, reclaiming his weapon and severing Volstagg’s head in a shocking moment of brutal consequence. Written by Michael Avon Oeming and illustrated with striking intensity by Scott Kolins—whose dynamic pencils and inks define the cover—this issue deepens the mythic stakes with visceral action and escalating peril, all rendered in vivid color by Wil Quintana and sharp lettering by Dave Lanphear.

Thor uses a lightning bolt to end his battle with Hercules, and Dionysus lends the Asgardians his wine-making pig for getting rid of Zeus' hard-drinking son. For their third task, Thor and the Warriors travel to Ireland, where they are to capture the Spear of Chulain, an item so deadly that it has to be kept in a cauldron of boiling blood to slake its violent thirst. Hogun is able to take the spear, but Chulain himself shows up, takes his spear back, and cuts off Volstagg's head.
