Thor: Blood Oath #5

Feb 2006 · Marvel · 2.99 USD; 4.25 CAD

In Thor: Blood Oath #5, written by Michael Avon Oeming and illustrated by Scott Kolins, Thor and his companions face their fourth trial in a mythic journey that's as relentless as it is surreal. After a brutal clash with the Irish god Chulain, who decapitates Volstagg and attacks Thor, Hogun halts the onslaught with an unexpected twist—literally. Restored by the world tree’s healing apple, the group presses forward, arriving in Japan to confront the temple of the Grasscutter sword, now sealed behind an army of the dead. The cover by Scott Kolins captures the moment’s intensity, with dynamic inks reinforcing the chaos.

The Irish god Chulain has cut off Volstagg's head and is beating Thor with his magical spear when Hogun puts a stop to his rampage by hitting him--with a car. Once Thor and Volstagg have been restored by taking bites of the healing apple of the world tree, the companions move on to their fourth task. They arrive in Japan and enter the temple of the Grasscutter sword but find it is guarded by an army of dead warriors.
