Alan Kupperberg was an American comics artist whose versatility across multiple crafts — penciling, inking, coloring, lettering, and writing — made him a reliable and productive presence in mainstream comics for decades. Born on May 18, 1953, he passed away on July 16, 2015.

Kupperberg broke into the industry in 1972 and built a career spanning both comic books and newspaper strips. His work appeared across a notably wide range of titles, accumulating credits on 357 issues over the course of his career. Among the books most closely associated with his name are Blue Devil, Thor, The Invaders, Marvel Tales, and The Transformers, as well as the beloved Marvel Hostess advertisement comics that ran as promotional pages throughout various titles during the late 1970s and early 1980s — a genre of oddity that has since earned its own cult following among readers of the era.
