“Muck and Mundane”

Marvel's humor magazine lives up to its tagline — "The Magazine That Dares to Be Dumb" — with this cheerfully chaotic June 1979 issue devoted to a "Great, Big Mork, the Merrier" celebration. Bob Larkin's cover art depicts five figures all dressed in identical green-and-yellow striped shirts, brown slacks, and red sneakers with suspenders, grinning in a choreographed pose that parodies the Mork from Ork look to delightful excess — with a tiny cartoon mascot peeking out from between their legs at the bottom. It's a warm, wonderfully silly snapshot of late-'70s pop-culture parody at its most gleefully unrestrained.
