“Strung-Out to the M.A.X.”

In "Strung-Out to the M.A.X.," Jenny Swensen is sent to Afghanistan under false pretenses, only to find herself caught in a dangerous game when she's forced to follow fellow agent Jake Travest after he parachutes from a plane. Once on the ground, the two are ambushed by Soviet soldiers equipped with stolen Model I M.A.X. armor—armor that was secretly sold to the Soviets by Krotze and the Club. Written by Cary Bates and illustrated by Alan Kupperberg, with inks by Tony DeZuniga and colors by Bob Sharen, this 1987 issue of Spitfire and the Troubleshooters delivers high-stakes intrigue and a tense, grounded mission. The cover, by Steve Geiger and Bob Wiacek, captures the moment of descent with sharp, dynamic detail.

Eduardo Giotti destroys the "Strong-Arms" and, with Terry Roberts, retires from action. Jenny Swensen refuses to join the CIA under Roth. He pretends to put her on a plane home, but ends up sending her to Afghanistan. Also aboard is Jake Travest, another agent manipulated by Roth. Travest causes Jenny to follow him after he parachutes out of the plane. Shortly after landing, they encounter Soviet soldiers wearing Model I M.A.X. armor sold to the Soviets by Krotze and the Club.
