“Star Shadows, Part One: Sun Spots!”

Mike Mignola's cover for this January 1992 issue sets an immediately unsettling tone, with a massive, grinning Eclipso looming over both Starman — reeling and off-balance in his star-emblazoned black costume — and a civilian figure in a green coat who looks decidedly unprepared for what's bearing down on them. The tagline "Eclipso Casts a Shadow of Doom Over Starman!" tells you exactly the kind of threat the hero is up against as "Star Shadows" kicks off its first chapter. With Strazewski writing and Calimee on interior art, this is a solidly crafted early-'90s DC superhero story that promises some serious cosmic menace right from the cover.

writer Len Strazewski · artist John Calimee · artist Andrew Smith · inker Roy Richardson · inker Alan Kupperberg · colorist Tom McCraw · letterer Bob Pinaha · cover Mike Mignola
