Simon Bisley is a British comic book artist whose visceral, heavily painted style made him one of the most distinctive visual voices to emerge from the British comics scene. Born in 1962, he broke into the industry in the late 1980s, with his catalog credits stretching from 1988 through to the present day across more than 200 issues.
Doom Patrol #35 (1990)
Bisley built his reputation primarily through his work on three titles: *ABC Warriors*, *Sláine*, and *Lobo*, all of which showcased his preference for dynamic, almost grotesquely exaggerated anatomy and richly textured painted finishes that set him apart from the cleaner line-work dominant at the time. His run on *Sláine: The Horned God* in particular demonstrated his ability to render mythological brutality with a painterly depth that felt closer to heavy metal album art than traditional sequential storytelling. *2000 AD*, the long-running British anthology, served as a key platform for much of his formative output.
2000 AD #558 (1988)
Beyond the UK market, Bisley found a substantial American audience through DC's *Lobo* and *Hellblazer*, and later contributed to projects such as *The Tower Chronicles: Dreadstalker*. His work as artist, colorist, inker, and occasional writer reflects a hands-on creative range. He remains an active presence in comics, continuing to produce work well into the 2020s.
