Doom Patrol #45

Grant Morrison's run on Doom Patrol has always embraced the genuinely strange, and issue #45 delivers a perfect cover-level preview of that spirit. Simon Bisley's painted cover depicts a powerful red-skinned figure grappling with a scruffier, wild-haired man amid a chaotic splash of shaving foam and a tumbling bottle — a surreal, oddly comedic brawl that signals the absurdist energy of the interior story, "The Beard Hunter." With interior art by Vince Giarrano and inks by Malcolm Jones III, this 1991 DC Mature Readers title is a fine example of the book's willingness to go somewhere no other superhero comic dared.
