“Aftermath”

Simon Bisley's cover for this August 1991 issue is a genuinely strange delight — a clown-faced figure in a polka-dot dress sits reading a book amid gnarled tree roots, surrounded by a grinning Cheshire Cat overhead, a horned demon creature to one side, and a large dinosaur looming behind a barbed-wire pillar. Grant Morrison, Richard Case, and Mark McKenna deliver the "Aftermath" chapter of one of DC's most wonderfully peculiar series, and this cover sets the tone perfectly — surreal, unsettling, and oddly charming all at once.
