“Anyhow Stories”

Simon Bisley's painted cover for this April 1991 issue is a genuinely unsettling collage of grotesque, distorted faces — a blue-skinned figure with bared teeth dominates the foreground, pressed against a green, stitched visage and an unsettling organic creature with a single wide eye looming above them all. Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell's "Anyhow Stories" sits behind that striking imagery, promising the kind of beautifully weird storytelling this series had become known for by 1991. A mature-readers DC title that wore its strangeness proudly.
