“In the Wonderful Land of Clockwork”

This August 1992 entry in Grant Morrison and Sean Phillips's celebrated run presents a striking Simon Bisley cover — a grotesque, decaying figure with a golden skull-like face dominates the foreground, its mottled limbs contrasting sharply against a crumbling stone giant mid-collapse and a crowd of indistinct faces receding into the background. The lurid green sky and smoldering orange light give the whole scene a fever-dream intensity that suits the title "In the Wonderful Land of Clockwork" perfectly. Bisley's painted linework makes this one of the more viscerally arresting covers of Doom Patrol's mature-readers era.
