“Bloody Carnations Part Four: The Cold Heart”

Simon Bisley's cover for this February 2011 Vertigo issue delivers an unsettling bird's-eye view of a bloodied, dazed figure sprawled on what appears to be a tiled floor, surrounded by a chaotic scatter of objects — a gun, gold chains, lipstick-marked cigarettes, crushed cans, and a riot of leopard print and blue fur. The inverted perspective and smeared crimson details give the whole scene a queasy, disorienting energy perfectly suited to the "Bloody Carnations" arc's fourth chapter. Peter Milligan scripts, with interior art from Giuseppe Camuncoli and Simon Bisley, making this a genuinely striking chapter in John Constantine's long, grim story.
