Mike Royer

Mike Royer, born June 28, 1941, is an American comics artist and inker whose career spans more than six decades of work across penciling, inking, lettering, coloring, and writing. He is perhaps most closely associated with two towering figures in the medium: Russ Manning, with whom he worked on Tarzan adaptations, and Jack Kirby, whose celebrated Fourth World material Royer helped bring to print through titles such as Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth and The Eternals. His inking style was widely regarded as a faithful and sympathetic complement to Kirby's bold, kinetic pencils, and the two developed a productive working relationship during one of Kirby's most ambitious creative periods at DC Comics. Royer's catalog runs impressively deep — nearly 440 credited issues — with Tarzan and Kamandi ranking among his most frequent assignments. Beyond superhero and adventure comics, he later transitioned into freelance product design and character work for The Walt Disney Company, demonstrating a versatility that extended well past the traditional comics industry. His contributions helped define the visual language of some of the most inventive comics publishing of the 1970s, and his name remains a reliable marker of quality craftsmanship for readers who followed that era closely.
