The cover of this September 1973 issue says it all — "surgical sorcery practiced in a modern metropolis turns it into Terror City!" — and Jack Kirby and Mike Royer deliver on that promise with a jaw-dropping image of Etrigan the Demon lunging ferociously while surrounded by a gallery of grotesque monsters and a desperate captive figure caught in the chaos. A warning balloon — "Hold, Demon! Don't meddle in realms where even YOU can be destroyed!" — hints at stakes that even DC's resident hellion may not survive. Kirby's bold, kinetic linework is firing on all cylinders here, making this one of the series' most viscerally energetic covers.
