Machine Man #1

Marvel's 1978 solo launch for Machine Man — "The Living Robot" — announces itself with a cover by Jack Kirby (pencils) and Frank Giacoia (inks) that wastes no time setting the stakes: a purple-suited, visor-eyed android charges forward defiantly while a ring of armed soldiers closes in around him, weapons leveled. The cover copy says it all — made in humanity's image, then condemned for being too human — and that tension crackles right off the page. Interior work from writer-artist Jack Kirby, inker Mike Royer, and colorist Petra G. promises the same bold vision of a machine struggling to find his place in a world that fears him.
