Kamandi #1 (1975) opens with a striking premise: Rupert Corbin witnesses a small spaceship land, only to be dismissed as a fake by its inventor. When Corbin decides to profit from the craft by killing Professor Lucas, he unknowingly triggers a chain of events that leads to his unexpected abduction by mysterious space travelers who reveal Lucas was their Earth contact. Mort Meskin handles both pencils and inks for the interior art, while Jack Kirby and Mike Royer deliver the striking cover.

Rupert Corbin sees a small spaceship land but is told by its inventor that it is only a mechanical prop. Corbin figures he can make money to pay back his gambling debts from pictures of the craft anyway, and kills Professor Lucas to do it. But Corbin is visited by small space travelers who reveal that Lucas was their contact on Earth and they take him home to their planet to face justice.
