“Dingbats of Danger Street”

DC's 1975 showcase series gave Jack Kirby the canvas to introduce the Dingbats of Danger Street — a scrappy crew of four street kids caught in a spotlight while enormous, clawed hands loom down from the darkness above them. The cover tagline "Far-Out Killers Stalk Inner City" sets a gritty urban tone, and Kirby's pencils, inked by Mike Royer, give the quartet real personality: the red-haired brawler up front, the kid in the "Skinny Power" shirt, the nervous guy with glasses, and the leather-jacketed tough on the left, all braced for trouble. It's Kirby doing what he loved — creating new characters full of energy and attitude, and making you want to follow them wherever Danger Street leads.
