The Flintstones #2
The Flintstones #2 (cover-dated December 1977) is part of Marvel Comics' brief but historically notable run of licensed Hanna-Barbera titles, launched at the tail end of the Bronze Age when Marvel secured the rights to publish comics based on the studio's cartoon library. As only the second issue in the series, it continued Marvel's experiment of bringing a beloved primetime-turned-syndication animation franchise into the direct tradition of the newsstand comic book, bridging two distinct corners of American popular culture. The Flintstones Vol. 1 was part of a wave of Hanna-Barbera comic titles published by Marvel from 1977 to 1979, with stories written throughout the run by Mark Evanier, a veteran animation and comics writer who had worked closely with Jack Kirby. Issue #2's lead feature, 'Wanted: Fred or Alive,' was drawn by Roger Armstrong, with inking by Joe Prince — the same art team that anchored most of the series. The companion Yogi Bear backup, 'The Trillionaire,' was drawn by Dick Bickenbach and Joe Prince, and the issue also included a one-page editorial feature titled 'Teamwork,' a profile of Hanna-Barbera founders Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera.
