David Hine was born in England in 1956 and has built a remarkably versatile career in comics, working across the full range of creative roles — writing, drawing, inking, coloring, and lettering — over a span stretching from 1981 into the mid-2020s.

Hine made his mark early as a self-contained creator, and his creator-owned *Strange Embrace* stands as one of the more distinctive works of his career: a psychologically dense, darkly atmospheric story that showcased his abilities as both writer and visual storyteller. His work at Marvel on *District X* demonstrated a talent for street-level, socially grounded superhero narratives, and *Silent War*, his Inhumans story, further cemented his reputation for giving weight and consequence to established characters. At DC, he took on *Azrael* and *The Spirit*, bringing a similarly thoughtful sensibility to each.

Outside the major publishers, Hine co-created *The Bulletproof Coffin* alongside artist Shaky Kane, a cult-favorite series celebrated for its sharp, playful deconstruction of vintage comics culture. He also contributed extensively to *Spawn* and collaborated on the fantasy series *Sonata*.

Across nearly 200 credited issues, Hine has proven consistently adaptable — equally at home in superhero, horror, and independent genres — while maintaining a voice that prioritizes character complexity and atmosphere over spectacle.
