“What if Xavier's Secret Second Team Had Survived?”
About this Collection

This collection gathers the 2007 'Event Horizon' storyline from Marvel's 'What If?' series, exploring alternate realities where key moments in Spider-Man and X-Men history take unexpected turns. The volume includes issues that reimagine classic tales, such as what if Spider-Man had joined the Fantastic Four or if the X-Men had lost the 'Days of Future Past' timeline.

In What If?: Event Horizon #nn, writer David Hine and artist David Yardin explore a chilling alternate path where Vulcan’s secret second team survived—only to rise as Earth’s most celebrated hero, until the Silver Surfer returns Krakoa’s remains and forces the X-Men to confront a devastating truth. The revelation that Vulcan orchestrated the original team’s demise to hide his role in Jean Grey’s accidental death leads to his banishment to Krakoa, a living prison of his own making. Mark Brooks’ striking cover captures the weight of this moment, while the story’s emotional core is drawn with precision by Yardin and Justice, colored with haunting depth by Guru eFX.

It has been years since Vulcan and his team of new X-Men defeated Krakoa and rescued Cyclops, even though the rest of the original X-Men tragically died. Vulcan has become Earth's greatest hero, idolized by millions. That is, until the Silver Surfer brings the remains of Krakoa back to Earth and the X-Men learn that Vulcan killed the original team to cover up the accidental death of Jean Grey by his hand. As punishment, Xavier banishes Vulcan to live on Krakoa to be constantly reminded of his crimes in order to teach him a lesson.
