Bulletproof Coffin #1

From Image Comics in 2010, this six-issue series kicks off with a cover by Shaky Kane that's immediately unlike anything else on the shelf. Two squat, toy-like monster figures — one a Frankenstein's monster type clutching a red ray gun, the other a wolfman-ish creature in a Japanese-text tee — loom over a scattered collection of pop-culture detritus: a crushed soda bottle, a fast-food bag, a pocket knife, and what appears to be an old comic book called The Unforgiving Eye alongside a "U-Control Darling Lab Monkey" package. Written and fully illustrated by Shaky Kane alongside co-writer David Hine, The Bulletproof Coffin wears its love of found culture and pulpy strangeness right on its sleeve with "Part One: The Eye within the Eye.
