Elephantmen #41

Issue #41 of Image's Elephantmen arrives with a cover by Boo Cook that is equal parts tender and deeply unsettling — a bald figure sits bedside reading a book labeled "Javier Kubec" to a figure lying in what appears to be a hospital bed, all bathed in warm lamplight while dark, thorny tendrils creep ominously across the floor below. Looming in the shadowy background is one of the series' hulking, animal-hybrid Elephantmen, lending the intimate scene an eerie, watchful weight. With David Hine writing and Rob Steen on colors, "The Long & Ghastly Kitchen" promises the blend of quiet humanity and strange dread that makes this 2012 Image series so compelling.
