The Spirit #8
Part of DC's First Wave line, this rain-soaked issue finds Will Eisner's Spirit crouched in a cemetery amid scattered skulls and overturned gravestones, a pried-open coffin revealing an unsettling crimson interior at his feet — while a looming silhouette watches from the headstone-strewn background. Ladrönn's moody cover sets a genuinely atmospheric tone, all storm and shadow, that feels perfectly suited to a story titled "The Return of Jimmy Bauhaus Part One." Written by David Hine with art by Moritat, this is pulp noir at its atmospheric best, and the bonus black-and-white Spirit feature by Walter Simonson and Jordi Bernet makes it a particularly satisfying read.
