Bulletproof Coffin #4

Issue four of this unsettling 2010 Image series delivers one of its most memorably jarring covers, rendered entirely by Shaky Kane: a stone-faced figure in a pink jumpsuit grips a bloody knife in one hand and a wriggling blue sack — bearing the wide-eyed face of some monstrous creature — in the other, while a cartoonish pink rabbit toy lies bloodied at his feet. Scrawled in red behind him are the words "DONE BECAUSE WE ARE ET TOO MENNY," lending the whole scene a chilling, outsider-art menace. With David Hine and Shaky Kane steering the story "Red Wraith, Red Wraith, Red Wraith," The Bulletproof Coffin continues to push its gleefully strange brand of pop-culture horror into genuinely uncomfortable territory.
